Here is another story on the Netherlands government rejecting wooden shoes, tulips, and windmills as national icons for their official EU symbol.

I was particularly fond of the "nice, but totally nutty" comment. There is serious truth to that...if you've never witnessed hundreds of clog-wearing, brightly colored dutch people (this refers to their dress, not that the people painted themselves in bright colors and ran around naked or anything. That would be a WHOLE different story) dancing in the streets, you've never witnessed true "nuttiness".
